Affordable Electric Renault: Czechs May Finally Want One

Renault is aiming to replicate the success of its Renault 5 electric vehicle with a modern reimagining of the Twingo, potentially offering one of the most affordable electric cars on the market.

The French automaker hopes to capitalize on growing consumer interest in smaller, more economical electric vehicles. While the new Twingo will initially be available in France this spring, it is expected to reach the Czech Republic by the end of 2026.

According to reports, the Twingo could be priced around 476,000 Czech koruna (approximately $20,000 USD), which would position it as a highly competitive option in the entry-level EV segment. This pricing strategy, combined with potential government incentives, could significantly boost its appeal to cost-conscious consumers.

The vehicle’s design draws heavily on the retro aesthetic that has proven popular with the Renault 5, blending classic styling cues with modern features. Observers note the attention to detail in elements like the headlights, narrow grille, and simulated air intakes, successfully capturing the essence of the original Twingo.

Despite the attractive price point, the interior features durable plastics, though not perceived as low quality. The Twingo’s compact size—measuring just 3.8 meters in length—is deceptive, offering surprisingly ample rear legroom thanks to a longer wheelbase (2493 mm), exceeding even that of the third-generation Fabia. This design choice prioritizes interior space within a little footprint, a key consideration for urban drivers.

Renault’s decision to share a patent supporting the safety of electric vehicles underscores the company’s commitment to innovation and responsible technology development. Renault Česká republika recently announced that the Renault 5 E-Tech electric won the Car of the Year 2025 award, and the new Renault Master was named Van of the Year 2025.

The launch of the new Twingo is part of Renault’s broader “New Wave” strategy, focused on advancing technologies, services, and energy solutions. The company is celebrating its 125th anniversary, reaffirming its long-standing dedication to mobility innovation.
