Jennifer Lopez is embracing a newfound sense of freedom and happiness following her 2024 divorce from Ben Affleck. The star’s personal life has been closely followed by fans and media alike, making her reflections particularly resonant.

In a preview of her upcoming interview on Nightline, airing Wednesday, March 11 on Good Morning America, the 56-year-old superstar opened up about life as a single woman and why she feels better than ever. “I’m in my happy era,” Lopez stated. “I think, for the first time in my life, I feel free. And it feels really good.”

Lopez reflected on how unusual this feeling is for her, noting that she’s spent much of her life in a relationship. “I really didn’t know what it felt like to be this since I was 20,” she commented. “I always had boyfriends. There was always someone in my life, and a lot of things were out of my control.”

Following the end of her marriage, Lopez made a conscious decision to step back from her career. “I had to stop everything and I took a year off,” she explained in her conversation with Nightline’s Juju Chang. “I canceled tours and just decided to be home and face what had happened without running away through function, through another person, or anything else; just be.”

Now, the singer and actress says she’s learning to trust herself more and let go of the pressure she used to put on herself. “I’ve gotten to a point where I really trust myself and appreciate myself a little more, instead of being so hard on myself and always trying to prove something,” she explained. Currently, she affirms she feels stronger than ever and is enjoying her single status. When asked if she is dating anyone, she emphatically replied, “No! I’m not. God no, I don’t want to ruin anything!”

Despite not being in a romantic relationship, Lopez feels surrounded by love. “I’m a mom to young people who are graduating this year and going to college,” she said about her 18-year-old twins, Max and Emme, from her relationship with Marc Anthony. “I’m a showgirl, an artist, an actress, and an entrepreneur. I’m happy, healthy, and grateful.”

J.Lo is currently focused on her new Las Vegas residency, Up All Night, which debuted late last year at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. For the show, she decided to reimagine her music with a fresh approach: “I wanted to have an orchestra on stage, something I’ve never done. All the songs have been reimagined that way.”
