Tenerife Opera to Premiere New Production of Romeo and Juliet Starring Airam Hernández and Sofía Esparza

This March, the Opera de Tenerife will debut its own production of Charles Gounod’s Roméo et Juliette, with staging by André Heller-Lopes and José Luis Gómez conducting the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra.

Tenor Airam Hernández will lead the cast as Roméo, alongside soprano Sofía Esparza as Juliette. Similarly featured are Fernando Campero as Mercutio, Christina Campsall as Stéphano, Belén Elvira as Gertrude, and Simón Orfila as Frère Laurent, among other soloists.

André Heller-Lopes’s scenic design includes sets by Renato Theobaldo, costumes by Sofia di Nunzio, lighting by Gonzalo Córdova, and choreography by Franklin Dávalos. The production promises a visually stunning interpretation of the classic tale.

Four performances are scheduled for March 15, 17, 19, and 21. More information is available here.
