Don’t Nod, the French development studio, unveiled a new gameplay video for Aphelion during the Future Games Show: Spring Showcase 2026, and simultaneously announced an official release date of April 28, 2026.
The gameplay footage showcases the challenging environment players will navigate as astronaut Ariane, a planet characterized by a harsh climate and difficult terrain. The game centers around survival and utilizing tools to overcome the planet’s obstacles.
The narrative is set in a future where Earth is projected to become uninhabitable by 2060. The discovery of a ninth planet, Persephone, on the fringes of the solar system, offers humanity a potential new home. The European Space Agency launched the Hope-01 scientific mission, entrusting astronauts Ariane and Thomas with the task of determining if Persephone is suitable for human colonization.
However, the mission takes a critical turn when the astronauts’ spacecraft crashes, leaving them stranded and separated on the alien world. They must then embark on a desperate search to reunite. The game’s focus on isolation and resourcefulness reflects a growing trend in space exploration games that emphasize realistic survival scenarios.
