“Night King” has officially become this year’s box office champion for Lunar Recent Year releases, surpassing 90 million Hong Kong dollars in combined ticket sales in Hong Kong, and Macau. The film’s success is largely attributed to the star power of Anthony Wong and Sammi Cheng, but a breakout performance from actress Kay Tse has captivated audiences and earned her the title of the film’s MVP.
Hong Kong’s MTR (Mass Transit Railway) is getting in on the fun, announcing plans to transform the Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing, and Lai King stations with interactive photo opportunities. One wall at the Kwai Fong station will feature the station’s name playfully altered to “Franchesca,” the English name of Tse’s character in the film, alongside stills of the actress. The MTR has also confirmed that Tse will visit the Kwai Fong station this Friday to participate in the activation, creating a moment of “Franchesca meets Kwai Fong!” The stations adjacent to Kwai Fong will also obtain a makeover: Lai King will be rebranded as “Night King,” the English title of the film, and Kwai Hing will become “Kwai Brother.”
Despite being released over a month ago, the film continues to generate buzz, with many online praising the MTR and the film company for their creative collaboration. Some fans have even suggested incorporating Tse’s distinctive accent into the station’s automated announcements, with a playful rendition of “Next Station is Francesca.” This clever marketing campaign is proving to be a hit with audiences and is likely driving continued interest in the film.
