  • Dr. Emi Arpa is a well-known dermatologist in Berlin.
  • Her clients prefer natural treatments.
  • The doctor emphasizes the high pressure on the appearance of celebrities.

If you follow skincare trends on social media, you’ve likely come across Dr. Emi Arpa. The 36-year-old is known as a star dermatologist, treating influencers like Laura Abla and Jermaine Kothé, as well as TV personality Sylvie Meis. She has over 635,000 followers on Instagram, where she shares insights into skin health and aesthetic medicine.

“There are a lot of trends and promises circulating in the world of skin and aesthetics that aren’t medically sound,” she explained. “It’s key to me to convey realistic expectations and facilitate people make informed decisions.” She notes that social media trends often emerge without explaining the risks or medical background.

“Many people are opting for treatments that give a fresh, rested look without it being obvious that something has been done,” says the dermatologist. These include skin-quality-improving treatments and minimally invasive procedures with short recovery times. The trend among her celebrity clients is clearly towards naturalness. Treatments at Dr. Arpa’s practice start at 400 euros for hyaluronic acid and 300 euros for Botox. A vampire facial to improve hair growth or skin quality is available from 550 euros.

Celebrities Feel More Pressure to Be Perfect

The dermatologist, who also has her own skincare brand, stresses that discretion is essential in her profession—whether the client is famous or not. However, she can say that celebrities often feel more pressure regarding their appearance. “When you’re constantly in the public eye, your appearance is commented on and judged much more,” says the German-Turkish doctor.

What do you suppose of aesthetic treatments to look fresher?

She also sees in her Berlin practice that external pressure plays a significant role, especially for people who appear on camera. “That’s why it’s important to me to plan treatments very individually and responsibly, and to advise against something if it’s not medically or aesthetically sensible.” Generally, her team doesn’t perform “according to fixed templates,” but rather tailors treatments to each individual.

Balancing Family and Career

Dr. Arpa shares glimpses of her professional life and her personal life with her six-month-old son on social media. “It’s important to me to show a realistic picture. Many women face similar challenges when it comes to balancing family and career,” she explains.

She receives support from her husband, Sebastian Dahlem, who is also her business partner. “Without a stable private life, a lot of things wouldn’t be possible. Family provides support, perspective, and grounding, especially when everyday work is very demanding,” Emi revealed.

As a woman, she often wonders if she can do justice to both roles. “That’s a big task, and honestly, I sometimes feel torn,” she admits. She tries not to notice career and family as opposites, but as enriching experiences.
