Bandung, tvOnenews.com – A significant land donation from a U.S.-based diaspora member is poised to transform a critical ecological zone in West Java, Indonesia. Governor of West Java, Dedi Mulyadi, expressed his gratitude to Ci Wendy Ratnasari, a Bandung native now living in the United States, for the 80-hectare gift.

The donation, presented during a meeting at Lembur Pakuan in Subang, West Java, will be used to address land degradation and bolster the local economy. Ratnasari’s contribution aims to support the governor’s hilirisasi program, a national initiative focused on adding value to natural resources.

Governor Dedi Mulyadi noted the land, located in Cimenyan, Bandung Regency, is in an area struggling with poverty. He welcomed Ratnasari’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of residents while simultaneously restoring the environment.

“She owns almost 80 hectares of land in Cimenyan, which is a poor area in Bandung Regency and West Java,” Dedi Mulyadi said Friday, March 13, 2026, according to tvOnenews.com.

The land had previously been used for seasonal vegetable farming, a practice identified as contributing to erosion, landslides, and flooding in the Bandung Raya region. Governor Mulyadi plans to convert the area into coffee plantations and reforested areas.

Ratnasari, who has lived in the U.S. For the past 30 years, had been unable to manage the land herself, with local residents utilizing it for agriculture. The shift to coffee cultivation will provide a sustainable income source for local farmers, with ongoing financial support from the project.

“We agreed to change the type of plants from vegetables to coffee plantations. Then, the farmers will also continue to receive income, they will still secure a monthly allocation of funds,” explained Governor Mulyadi.

The initiative aims to not only rehabilitate the degraded land but also to ensure the economic well-being of the surrounding communities. The governor highlighted the benefit of transitioning from low-wage labor to a more sustainable and profitable agricultural model.

“Instead of being paid Rp30,000 as laborers, they can plant [coffee] and earn a daily wage from the harvest,” he said.
