Four U.S. Airmen have died after a KC-135 refueling tanker crashed in western Iraq on March 12, according to a statement from U.S. Central Command. The incident occurred as the U.S. Military is engaged in operations against Iranian targets, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the crash.

U.S. Central Command reported that the KC-135 apparently collided with another aircraft. Another KC-135 involved in the incident managed to land safely, officials said.

The command stated that the crash was not the result of enemy fire or friendly fire. Rescue operations are ongoing.
