A dramatic collision between Franco Colapinto and Esteban Ocon highlighted the action at the Chinese Grand Prix. The two drivers were already engaged in a spirited battle on older hard tires before their first pit stops, and the tension escalated upon their return to the track with fresh rubber. As Colapinto exited the pits, Ocon attempted an overtake, lost grip, and made contact with the Argentine driver.
Loss of traction is common in the first corner after a pit stop, and Ocon, who had pitted several laps earlier, experienced this firsthand. Colapinto skillfully defended his position, leaving space for Ocon, but the Haas driver turned across his path, making contact with the Alpine’s rear right wheel and sending Ocon spinning.
Initial reports indicated some minor floor damage to Colapinto’s car, but it wasn’t significant enough to hinder his competitive pace. Ocon immediately took responsibility for the incident, informing his team via radio, “It was my fault.” Stewards subsequently penalized Ocon with a 10-second time penalty for the incident.
