The Cultural Center of the Lycée Français de New York will celebrate Francophonie with a concert on Thursday, March 19, starting at 8:30 p.m., featuring the sounds of the Indian Ocean.
The Concert de la Francophonie will showcase two New York-based artists: violinist Natie, originally from the island of La Réunion, and Malagasy artist Niu Raza, who is also a composer and producer. Natie gained experience touring with major artists like Beyoncé and Jay-Z before launching her solo career, exploring her Creole identity through her songwriting.
Niu Raza, a former student of Berklee College of Music in Boston, was the first artist from Madagascar to win the New England region’s award for best artist in 2021. She is known for her album “Immigrant” and her ability to blend traditional Malagasy music with jazz, groove, and R&B.
The two singer-songwriters will perform a setlist of both classic and contemporary French song covers, as well as their original compositions influenced by Maloya music. The event is organized with the support of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF). This concert highlights the growing presence of diverse musical voices within the Francophone community.
