A performance by French artist Dieudonné was shut down Sunday evening in Forest, Belgium, after police discovered a gathering of approximately 300 people at a private building with no safety permits. The event had initially been scheduled for Charleroi, but was moved after city officials there received no official request from the artist’s team.

Authorities in Forest responded to reports of a large group assembling near the building, with some attendees bringing chairs. Police determined a show was underway and that the venue lacked necessary operating licenses and fire safety reports, according to reports. The incident underscores the challenges authorities face in regulating unscheduled public events.
