Fito Páez: 300,000 Fans Rock Rosario at Monumental Concert

Fito Páez drew an estimated 300,000 people to a Sunday concert at the Monumento a la Bandera, according to provincial and municipal authorities. The event marked the largest artistic gathering in Rosario in recent years, surpassing even a free performance by Nicki Nicole in October of last year at the same location.

Santa Fe’s Minister of Culture, Susana Rueda, expressed her satisfaction, stating, “We were co-organizers alongside the Municipality of Rosario. This was part of the synergy that is generated in the area of culture between both administrations and that everyone can enjoy.”

“What happened last night was pure joy. It was another popular celebration,” Rueda said. “This happened with Nicki Nicole in October, and more recently with the inauguration of Costa Nueva. With Fito Páez, people returned to the Monument. Fito said in a video that the most important thing is to have a place of belonging, and the Monument is our place of demonstration as well as belonging.”

Rueda also highlighted the Monumento a la Bandera’s significance, noting, “It was a place where pain was exorcised, a place to protest, for sporting celebrations. And in this case, it was a place for culture and art, a public space that people can enjoy thanks to public culture. We want to thank Fito for his generosity. He didn’t charge for this concert. There was sponsorship from private companies, which we appreciate. It’s the articulation between the public and private sectors with artists so that people can enjoy themselves.”

Regarding the estimated 300,000 attendees at the Monumento, the Minister of Culture stated that “Nicki Nicole’s concert (held in October) made it possible to hold last night’s event. The arrival of buses was very well organized, and the dispersal was very orderly. After Nicki Nicole, many people were encouraged to go to the Monument. Fito has a more cross-sectional audience from an age perspective. There were older people, young adults, children, and entire families who had picnics several hours before in the Parque a la Bandera.”

On Sunday night, Governor Maximiliano Pullaro emphasized that “Rosario has returned,” and that “good people have reclaimed public spaces and are enjoying the city. Those who looked at us with pity three years ago now look at us with admiration, because the people of Rosario and Santa Fe were able to arrive together and overcome that dark stage that hit us so hard; and today we have these beautiful things.”

Fito Páez, a Son of His City

The governor continued, noting that concerts of this scale are rare in many parts of Argentina: “You have to look hard for shows of these characteristics and crowds of people gathering to enjoy themselves.”

Rosario Mayor Pablo Javkin added that “Fito is a son of the city who came to give us his art and share it. It was a historic night in terms of the audience, and we are very happy. Music unites us at a time when the city has come back to life. And today I saw the whole country talking about it, people are coming from all over Argentina—it’s great that we’ve moved from pity to a certain envy.”
