It wasn’t the quick fix many might assume.
Hungarian singer Tóth Vera discussed her remarkable weight loss journey as a guest on the podcast A Te Kék Zónád. The original winner of Megasztár, Hungary’s version of “Pop Idol,” has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, shedding 77 kilograms (approximately 170 pounds) from her peak weight. However, the change wasn’t driven by fad diets, but by a consistent lifestyle shift, discipline and deep personal work. The singer also faced health challenges that needed addressing, and she admits the process of feeling comfortable in her own skin was a long one.
“There is medication for insulin resistance, but unfortunately that’s not the solution – you have to change your lifestyle. This has shaped my personality a lot. In two years, I did a 180-degree turn from my old hedonistic, orally-fixated self. I’ve become a calm, wise, slightly retired-like person,” Vera told Hámori Barbara. The singer underwent gastric bypass surgery ten years ago due to her weight, a procedure that reduced the size of her stomach, but ultimately didn’t yield the desired long-term results.
Her insulin resistance, which caused dizziness, fainting, and panic attacks, prompted a lifestyle overhaul: she learned to alternate between leisurely- and fast-absorbing carbohydrates in her diet, and eliminated sugar and white flour. She lost 30 kilograms (approximately 66 pounds) in just two years thanks to the lifestyle changes. She was clear that she doesn’t use injections to aid her weight loss.
“I’m not lying. People can know that, and those who trust me – they can safely trust me – that I’ve never injected myself. But if my doctor told me to inject it, I would. I’m a little afraid of these things, but if it supports keeping my sugar levels stable…”
Vera follows an 80-20 rule, allowing herself to indulge 20 percent of the time because she says it’s essential for her soul. She focuses on preparing meals with high-quality ingredients, getting plenty of exercise, and minimizing stress in her life. Every morning, after waking up, she takes a long walk with her dog, followed by 20-25 minutes of yoga. She says she still wants to lose another 5-6 kilograms. This transformation highlights a growing trend among celebrities prioritizing holistic wellness and long-term health over quick-fix solutions.
