Crimson Desert launched on March 19th and, despite pre-release hype, appears to have fallen short of expectations. The open-world action-adventure game is currently the top seller on Steam, driving significant player numbers – peaking at 239,045 concurrent users shortly after release. As of March 20th at 10:30 AM, the game holds the sixth spot on Steam’s most-played list with around 115,000 players, according to Steam charts.
Player reception on Steam mirrors the mixed reviews from industry press. Crimson Desert currently has a “mixed” overall rating, with only 57 percent positive reviews based on over 8,000 user reviews. While some players praise the game’s world, graphics and content, others cite issues with controls and an unfinished feel. Reports also suggest potential review bombing is influencing the overall score.
