A theme park dedicated to the popular video game Minecraft is slated to open in London in 2027, marking the first time the franchise will be represented in a major theme park setting. The project, dubbed Minecraft World, will be integrated into the existing Chessington World of Adventures resort.
The announcement was made during Minecraft Live 2026, revealing a collaboration between Mojang Studios, the maker of Minecraft, and Merlin Entertainments, a leading theme park operator. The move underscores the growing trend of bridging the gap between digital entertainment and immersive physical experiences.
Minecraft World will become a recent area within Chessington World of Adventures, which already features a zoo. The resort is easily accessible from London, located just a 35-minute direct train ride from Waterloo station.
While specific details are still forthcoming, the park is planned to include a first-of-its-kind roller coaster, interactive adventures, and large-scale block-built play areas. “Inspired by the game’s most iconic biomes, mobs, and items, Minecraft World will bring the best-selling game of all time into the physical world for the highly first time at a major theme park,” according to a description from the two companies.
The park will also feature Minecraft-themed retail and dining options. Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Creative Director of the Minecraft series, stated, “Our goal is to create an immersive, authentic and beloved experience.”
The $70 million project, as reported by Variety, represents a significant investment in the expansion of the Minecraft universe. Merlin Entertainments, the second-largest theme park company globally, is partnering with Mojang Studios on the venture. TheGamer notes that the park is aiming for a 2027 opening, despite the relatively short timeframe given it is still early 2026.
According to a report from Yahoo News, Minecraft World will offer “attractions and adventures,” the “biggest Minecraft shop ever,” “Minecraft food,” and “mob encounters.”
