Ubisoft is navigating both financial challenges and significant opportunities, particularly through its ability to leverage proprietary technology tailored to its needs rather than relying on external engines like Unity or Unreal Engine.
The French game developer currently maintains three in-house engines – the discontinued UbiArt, the robust Snowdrop, and the promising Anvil. The Anvil engine, which powers the popular Assassin’s Creed series, is poised for a substantial upgrade comparable to the Nanite system found in Unreal Engine 5.
According to reports, Ubisoft has developed a new rendering technique called Micropolygons Rendering. Similar to Epic Games’ approach, Ubisoft Anvil will utilize microscopic polygons, aiming to enhance object detail while theoretically minimizing the strain on console and PC hardware. This development signals a growing focus on advanced rendering techniques within the gaming industry.
