“Lekrings” Shows Character in Cesis, Series Stands at 1-2
Cēsu “Lekrings” secured their first victory in the ELVI Men’s Floorball League semi-final series, overcoming Kocēnu “Rubene” 5:4 in a thrilling shootout after a hard-fought contest on their home floor. Artūrs Jurševskis netted the decisive penalty, while Edgars Puriņš led the offensive charge with a hat trick.
The match in Cēsis saw Kocēni take an early lead, with Ritvars Bērziņš finding the back of the net in the 15th minute to create it 1-0. Edgars Puriņš leveled the score for “Lekrings” in the 23rd minute, but Ingars Matisons quickly restored the visitors’ advantage just 15 seconds later, putting “Rubene” ahead 2-1. Before the second break, Puriņš added two more goals, and Gints Bērtulis also scored, giving the home side a 4-2 lead.
The third period saw “Rubene” mount a comeback, tying the game at 4-4 with goals from Jēkabs Keišs and Ingars Matisons. In a dramatic turn, a goal scored by Kocēni in overtime was disallowed. “Lekrings” had a chance to win it with a penalty shot in the 6th minute, but Artūrs Jurševskis was unable to convert. The game ultimately went to a penalty shootout, where Jorens Malkavs and Jurševskis scored for the hosts, while only Pāvels Semjonovs found the net for “Rubene,” securing a 5-4 victory for Cēsu “Lekrings.” Despite the win, Kocēnu “Rubene” leads the best-of-five series 2-1.
