Popular host Dalibor Gondík revealed a confession to his wife that would send many into shock. Not Markéta Gondíková.
Well-known actor, comedian, and host Dalibor Gondík has fielded speculation about his sexual orientation for much of his life. Eventually, he realized it simply wasn’t worth the effort to constantly defend himself and refute rumors, and he’s learned to travel with the flow.
Gondík has stated he seems to have his orientation written all over his face, as he simply comes across as someone who prefers the company of other men. Or, at least, that’s what those other men seem to think, and they reportedly often try to build their interest known.
But should things ever take a turn, Dalibor can at least take comfort in knowing he’d be met with understanding at home.
Years ago, after returning home late one night following an advance from another man, he made a revealing confession to his wife: “I came home and said to my wife in the dark bedroom, ‘Markét, I think I’m gay,’” he recounted on Honza Dědek’s talk show some time ago.
“I know,” his wife calmly replied.
Gondík then joked that his wife probably knew all along: “She saw that I was desperate, that various men were hitting on me… That’s just how it is, but I really can’t help it. Men have been explaining to me since puberty that only a man can know what a man needs. That a woman can’t possibly know,” the host laughed.
Dalibor and his wife have been together for nearly 30 years and raised a son, Theodor, who is now a barista, but speculation about his orientation occasionally resurfaces. The Czech entertainment figure often chooses to find the humor in the situation. This lighthearted approach to a topic often shrouded in seriousness is characteristic of Gondík’s public persona, and speaks to a broader cultural shift towards open conversation about identity.
