Meanwhile, in a game celebrating his 25th birthday, goaltender Artur Shilov was in reserve as the Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a 5-1 defeat at home against the Carolina Hurricanes.
Stuart Skinner allowed 21 goals on 25 shots for the Penguins, with the Hurricanes adding an empty-netter late. Seth Jarvis led the Hurricanes with a goal and two assists.
The Penguins hold a 86-point record in 70 games, placing them sixth in the Eastern Conference, just one point ahead of the Blue Jackets. The Hurricanes lead the conference with 96 points in 70 games.
