Indonesian transportation officials have issued sanctions to 124 trucking companies for violating restrictions during the Lebaran holiday travel period, as authorities worked to manage traffic flow and improve road safety. The crackdown focused on overloaded vehicles and those exceeding size limitations.

According to Director General of Land Transportation Aan Suhanan, Jasa Marga recorded a total of 3,968 freight vehicles being diverted across 17 toll road sections at 54 locations between eight days before and the day of Lebaran, which fell on March 21, 2026.

“Based on RFID data at KM 54 B on the JORR E toll road between March 13 and March 21, 2026, 158 freight vehicles with three to five axles were detected violating the weight and size restrictions during the freight transport ban,” Suhanan said in a written statement on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Suhanan noted that the implementation of the freight transport restrictions, as outlined in a joint decree, reduced the volume of freight vehicles in categories III-V by 69.83%, from 131,267 vehicles to 39,608 vehicles.

“As of today, a total of 124 trucking companies have been recorded for violating the operational restrictions on freight transport, with some companies violating the rules up to three times,” Suhanan revealed.

Penalties Issued to 124 Companies

The companies most frequently cited for violations include PT SIL, PT MUPM, PT IWE, PT FRI, and PT PF. The Ministry of Transportation has issued administrative sanctions to the violators, including warnings against future operational violations and requests for written statements promising compliance.

“If the warning is not heeded, we will impose a license suspension,” Suhanan stated. “We are taking these measures to facilitate traffic flow during the peak of the Lebaran return journey and prioritize the safety and convenience of road users.”

The Ministry of Transportation requires all logistics companies to comply with the freight transport restrictions outlined in the joint decree, which applies to vehicles with three or more axles, vehicles with drawbar or full trailers, and vehicles transporting excavation materials, mining products, and building materials.

According to Suhanan, the implementation of the freight transport restrictions, as outlined in a joint decree, reduced the volume of freight vehicles in categories III-V by 69.83%, from 131,267 vehicles to 39,608 vehicles.
