Indonesia is seeing a decline in weekly measles cases throughout March 2026, offering a hopeful sign amidst ongoing public health efforts. The trend is particularly encouraging as measles remains a significant concern globally, especially for vulnerable populations.
According to Aji Muhawarman, Head of the Bureau of Communications and Public Information at the Ministry of Health, the weekly trend of measles cases began to decrease starting in the 9th week of March and continued through the 11th week, as of March 18, 2026.
“The number of measles cases in the 10th week was 1,023, decreasing to 607 cases in the 8th week, and further down to just 74 cases in the 11th week,” Muhawarman stated on Monday, March 23, 2026.

This decrease in reported cases is mirrored by a reduction in suspected cases. In the 9th week, there were 1,314 suspected cases, which fell to 829 in the 10th week, and just 112 in the 11th week.
As of mid-March 2026, the Ministry of Health reported a total of 13,046 suspected measles cases, with 10,301 cases confirmed and 8 fatalities.
54 extraordinary events (KLB) have been recorded across 37 districts/cities in 13 provinces. While the case trend began to decline at the end of February 2026, public vigilance remains crucial to prevent wider transmission.
