TEHRAN – The United States has paused attacks on energy-related facilities in Tehran, but will continue broader military operations against Iran, according to U.S. Officials who spoke with the Semafor news outlet on March 23, 2026. This development comes amid heightened tensions in the region and follows statements from former President Donald Trump regarding discussions with Iranian authorities.
Trump announced on the same day that he would delay strikes on Iranian energy facilities for five days. However, Iranian officials subsequently denied any agreement to engage in talks with the U.S.
According to Semafor, a U.S. Official clarified that “the five-day pause in attacks is only against energy facilities.”
The official further stated that strikes would continue targeting military sites, naval assets, ballistic missile infrastructure, and defense industry locations. “Operation Epic Fury’s initial plans will continue,” they said.
Reuters has not independently verified this reporting. The White House, State Department, and Department of Defense have not yet responded to requests for comment.
Semafor also reported that Israel is not involved in the U.S.-Iran discussions.
