WhatsApp is preparing a new feature for iPhone users that will automatically translate messages directly within chats.
The update, currently available in the latest iOS beta version of the Meta-owned messaging app, eliminates the need for users to manually copy and paste text into separate translation applications.
According to 9to5Mac, the feature will offer automatic translation on a per-chat basis. Once enabled, incoming messages will be instantly translated into the user’s preferred language, with options to select both the source and target languages.

The translation capability extends to group chats as well, potentially streamlining communication in international communities or professional settings.
WhatsApp is leveraging Apple’s built-in translation capabilities for this feature. The process is performed on-device, meaning messages are not sent to external servers, preserving end-to-end encryption and user privacy. This approach to on-device processing is becoming increasingly common as companies prioritize data security.
This method also offers the advantage of offline functionality, provided users have downloaded the necessary language packs. Currently, the system supports approximately 21 languages, including English, Indonesian, Japanese, and Mandarin.
The feature remains under development and is not yet widely available. No official release date has been announced. However, if launched, this update promises to be one of the most practical improvements to WhatsApp in recent memory.
