Malmö FF has secured the services of Oscar Sjöstrand from Dutch side SC Cambuur, the club announced Wednesday.
Sjöstrand began his football journey with Nacka FC in the outskirts of Stockholm, later spending time with Boo FF before joining Djurgårdens IF. He excelled in Djurgården’s youth system, winning the league cup with the P19 team and contributing a goal in the final.
In February 2024, Sjöstrand moved to Sollentuna FK in the Swedish Division 1, but his stay was brief. He soon transitioned to Sandvikens IF in Superettan, where he quickly established himself as a key player. A year later, he earned a transfer to SC Cambuur in the Dutch second tier.
Playing primarily as a left winger for SC Cambuur, Sjöstrand made a significant impact, scoring 10 goals and providing 7 assists in 32 league matches. His contributions were instrumental in the club’s promotion to the top division. Currently, Sjöstrand is on international duty with the Sweden U21 national team.
“Oscar is fast and has a drive with the ball that stands out,” said Daniel Andersson, Malmö FF’s Head of Football. “He also has exciting dribbling skills and one-on-one ability. After performing well in Sandviken, he continued to develop at Cambuur, where Oscar was a major contributor to their success.”
Andersson continued, “Oscar has shown over the past season that he is a goal-scoring threat, both as a scorer and a playmaker. We look forward to working with him here in Malmö so that he can continue to develop and contribute his special qualities to our team.”
Oscar Sjöstrand:
“I’m an offensive player who likes to challenge defenders and use my explosiveness to get past them. I always supply my all for the club on my chest,” Sjöstrand stated.
“It will be an incredible honor to represent MFF and play in the league I’ve followed since I started playing football. Malmö FF is Sweden’s biggest club, so when they call, you answer. I support the vision presented to me and want to be a part of it.”
“What we have is a dream arrive true and I can’t wait to play in the sky blue jersey. I’m really looking forward to getting started and getting to know the players and coaches.”
