Reports indicate that an Israeli strike has resulted in the death of Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGC).
An Israeli official stated that Tangsiri was killed in an attack in Bandar Abbas, Iran, and described him as being responsible for potential closures of the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Israeli media outlet Times of Israel.
As of Thursday, March 26, 2026, neither Iran nor the Israeli military has issued an official statement regarding the reported attack.

If confirmed, his death would mark the latest in a series of attacks targeting senior Iranian officials amid ongoing conflict in the region.
The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, resulting in the deaths of several senior military commanders and civilians, triggering a wider conflict in the Middle East.
Iran has since responded with missile and drone strikes throughout the region, including targeting countries in the Gulf with U.S. Military bases. Neighboring countries have stated they were not involved in the conflict and would not allow their territory to be used for attacks against Iran.
Iran too maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway through which approximately one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
