Taipei native Jeremy Lin has transitioned into a new role as a basketball analyst for ESPN, just months after announcing his retirement from the NBA in August 2025.
Lin revealed on Wednesday, March 26, 2026, that he’d been invited to join the sports network as a commentator. But, his debut wasn’t without a bit of pre-display anxiety. He jokingly shared on Instagram that he was hoping to retain his new job, admitting he struggled to sleep the night before his first broadcast.
The former NBA point guard prepared for his on-air appearance with meticulous attention to detail, styling his hair and donning a suit. He was met with a playful challenge from the production team upon arrival. According to Lin, he received a warning to “be ready to debate,” as he was scheduled to appear alongside former NBA player Kendrick Perkins for a spirited discussion.
“You have to stand your ground and stick to your opinions, so… I have to prepare to debate,” Lin explained.
Introduced by host Malika Andrews, Lin made a confident debut, officially joining ESPN as a basketball commentator. “Jeremy, welcome to the team, we are so excited to have you!” Andrews said. Lin humbly responded, “Thank you for having me!”
He then confidently shared his insights on the game, impressing Perkins, who frequently nodded in agreement. The positive start to his new career has been met with widespread support from fans, who have flooded social media with messages of encouragement.
This new chapter comes after a distinguished basketball career for Lin, who captivated audiences with his skill and inspiring story. His move to ESPN marks an exciting continuation of his involvement in the sport he loves.
