Poland to Face Nigeria in June Friendly Following World Cup Playoff Heartbreak
The Polish Football Association (PZPN) has officially confirmed that Poland will play a friendly match against Nigeria on June 3, 2026. The clash is scheduled to kick off at 20:45 at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw.
The fixture comes as the national team is returning to action following a disappointing loss to Sweden in the playoffs, a result that ended their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Nigeria also failed to secure a spot in the upcoming global tournament.
This will mark only the second time these two nations have faced each other in a professional match. Their sole previous encounter took place on March 23, 2018, in Wrocław, where Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory. Nigeria enters the match as the higher-ranked side, currently positioned 26th in the FIFA rankings, while Poland sits at 35th. The Nigerian squad brings a prestigious pedigree to the pitch as a three-time Africa Cup of Nations winner, though their last title was claimed in 2013.
While the June friendly allows the team to reset, the PZPN is already eyeing upcoming fixtures in the next edition of the Nations League. Poland is scheduled to host Bosnia and Herzegovina on September 25, followed by an away match against Sweden three days later on September 28. The announcement of potential opponents like Nigeria provides a critical opportunity for the squad to rebuild momentum before the competitive season resumes.
