HK Nitra’s Tomáš Hrnka Suspended for One Game Following Playoff Incident
HK Nitra will be missing a key piece of their offense on April 5, 2026, as 34-year-old center Tomáš Hrnka has been handed a one-game suspension by the professional hockey senate (SPH DK SZĽH).
The disciplinary action stems from a cross-check delivered during Friday’s first game of the Tipsport liga playoff semifinal series against Poprad. The suspension leaves the “Corgoňom” shorthanded for Saturday’s clash.
The SPH DK SZĽH ruled that Hrnka committed a dangerous act at the 52:46 mark of the game. According to the league, Hrnka intentionally struck an opponent in the upper body while using a two-handed grip on his stick, an action that seriously endangered the opposing player’s safety. The decision was first detailed by hockeyslovakia.sk.
As the semifinal series intensifies, the loss of a veteran center will force Nitra to reshuffle their depth for Game 2 of the series.
