Man Arrested After Shotgun Blast Triggers Evacuation at Oslo Hotel
A man in his 20s was taken into custody early Friday, April 10, 2026, after a suspected shotgun blast triggered a fire alarm and a brief evacuation at the Clarion Hotel The Hub in central Oslo.
Oslo police first reported the incident at 5:27 a.m. The alarm prompted a short-term evacuation of the hotel, though officials quickly determined there was no actual fire on the premises. The event highlights the sudden disruption and security risks associated with firearms in high-occupancy urban settings.
Investigators initially suspected that fireworks detonated inside one of the hotel rooms may have set off the alarm. Still, after searching the room, police discarded that theory, stating that evidence instead pointed to the discharge of a shotgun.
“The fire department has been inside the room in question; there is no fire,” said operations leader Anders Aas. He noted that guests who had evacuated the building were allowed to return to their rooms.
Police confirmed the arrest of a man in his 20s who is described as being well-known to authorities. By 8:17 a.m., officials announced they had recovered a weapon linked to the evidence found in the room.
According to vaktkommandør Glenn Gulbrandsen, no injuries were reported in connection with the blast. Police have officially opened a case regarding the incident.
