Massive 120 GB Leak Reveals Details of Cancelled ‘Metro 4’ Project

A substantial data breach has exposed the inner workings of a cancelled ambitious project from 4A Games. Approximately 120 GB of materials related to “Metro 4,” a post-apocalyptic action title, have surfaced online, providing a rare glimpse into a game that never reached the public.

The leaked files, which first appeared on platforms such as Reddit before spreading across the gaming community, include character models, dialogue scripts, and detailed maps. While some platforms have since removed the content due to its illegal nature, the scale of the leak has already allowed significant details to circulate. This event underscores the volatility of digital assets in the modern gaming industry, where cancelled projects can suddenly reappear years later.

According to the leaked materials, the project was cancelled in 2022. The game was designed as a highly ambitious title featuring an open-world structure that spanned both the frozen surface and the subterranean tunnels of the metro. In a departure from the previous trilogy, the protagonist was set to be the Hunter (Lovec), a character known from the Metro 2033 and Metro 2034 novels, while the series’ long-time lead, Artyom, was intended to move into a supporting role.

The narrative was planned to cover the period from January 2033 to December 2034. The leak suggests a heavy emphasis on storytelling, with the Hunter reportedly having around 10,000 lines of dialogue—significantly more than other characters. The plot would have incorporated various rumors circulating between stations, such as the idea that alcohol mitigates radiation effects or that women in NBC suits shoot faster than men, which players could then investigate or debunk.

Beyond the story, 4A Games planned significant systemic overhauls. The leak indicates a move toward a barter-based economy, replacing the traditional use of ammunition as currency, alongside a more sophisticated crafting system. Familiar faces, including Bourbon and the Khan, were also slated for a return.

The timing of this leak is particularly notable, as rumors have begun to circulate regarding a new, playable entry in the franchise. Reports suggest that development on this current project began after Metro 4 was scrapped, and it is likely that some elements from the cancelled 2022 project were integrated into the new title.

The last full-scale release in the series was Metro Exodus in 2019, followed more recently by the VR experience Metro Awakening in 2024.
