Taiwanese actress and singer Ariel Lin has revealed she’s been unable to secure a rental apartment despite offering up to NT$80,000 (approximately US$2,500) per month, citing two major “red flags” that landlords keep rejecting her applications.
In a recent interview with Mirror Media, Lin explained that while her budget is flexible, she’s repeatedly run into obstacles tied to her celebrity status and the specific requirements of her work schedule. “I’ve been looking for a place to live for months now,” she said. “But every time I discover something that seems right, the landlord backs out — usually because of two things: they’re worried about noise from filming or fans showing up, or they don’t want to deal with the extra paperwork and scrutiny that comes with renting to someone in the public eye.”
Lin, best known for her roles in popular dramas like “It Started with a Kiss” and “The Magicians of Love,” emphasized that she’s not asking for special treatment — just a normal rental process. “I’m not looking for luxury or extras,” she added. “I just want a quiet, stable place to call home where I can rest between projects.”
Her comments have sparked discussion online, with many netizens expressing sympathy and advising her to consider buying property instead. “If renting is this hard, maybe it’s time to invest in a place of her own,” one comment read. Others noted the broader challenge celebrities face in Taiwan’s competitive housing market, where privacy concerns and landlord hesitation often complicate searches.
While Lin hasn’t announced any immediate plans to purchase property, her openness about the struggle highlights a lesser-known side of celebrity life — the everyday challenges of finding housing, even with a steady income and public profile.
