Police in Portugal have arrested a 40-year-old man suspected of attempted homicide following a stabbing incident at the National Horse Fair in Golegã.
The arrest occurred on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, after investigators from the Criminal Investigation Department of Leiria, part of the Judiciary Police (PJ), executed a warrant linked to the November 9 incident.
According to authorities, the stabbing took place in the early hours of November 9 during a dispute at the fairgrounds. A 32-year-old man was seriously injured after being stabbed and required medical treatment.
The suspect, who has a prior police record including drug trafficking and physical assault offenses, is being held on suspicion of attempted homicide. He is expected to appear before a judicial authority for initial questioning and to determine any coercive measures.
The case was reported to the Leiria PJ unit, which conducted the investigation leading to the arrest. Officials confirmed the suspect will face prosecution for the alleged crime.
