Bangkok Offers Free Rabies Vaccinations, Microchipping, and Spay/Neuter Services for Pets This Weekend
As part of an ongoing effort to control rabies and promote responsible pet ownership, Bangkok’s public health authorities are offering free rabies vaccinations, microchipping, and spay/neuter services for dogs and cats this weekend. The initiative, organized by the city’s Public Health Department, will grab place on April 29 and 30, 2026, targeting five key districts to help curb the spread of rabies—a deadly but preventable disease.
Rabies remains a critical public health concern in many parts of the world, including Southeast Asia. According to health experts, vaccination and population control through spaying and neutering are among the most effective strategies to reduce transmission risks to both animals and humans. This weekend’s event provides an opportunity for pet owners to protect their animals whereas contributing to broader disease prevention efforts.
Where and When to Go
The free services will be available at the following locations and times:
- April 29, 2026 – Lad Krabang District
Time: 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM - April 29, 2026 – Bang Na District

Mobile veterinary units from the Bangkok Public Health Department will be on-site to administer the services. Pet owners are encouraged to register on arrival, as each location has a limited number of slots available.
What Services Are Included?
The event will offer three key services at no cost:

- Rabies Vaccination – Essential for preventing rabies, a fatal viral disease that can spread to humans through bites or scratches from infected animals.
- Microchipping – A permanent form of identification that helps reunite lost pets with their owners and ensures compliance with local pet registration laws.
- Spay/Neuter Procedures – Helps control the pet population, reducing the number of stray animals and lowering the risk of disease transmission.
While the services are free, pet owners should prepare their animals in advance. Dogs and cats should be in fine health, and owners are advised to bring any previous vaccination records if available. The event is open to all residents of Bangkok, though priority may be given to pets from the designated districts.
Why This Matters for Public Health
Rabies is nearly 100% fatal once symptoms appear, but it is entirely preventable through vaccination. In regions where stray animal populations are high, mass vaccination and sterilization campaigns play a crucial role in breaking the cycle of transmission. By offering these services for free, Bangkok’s health authorities aim to increase vaccination coverage and reduce the number of unowned or feral animals that can spread the disease.
For pet owners, microchipping not only helps in recovering lost pets but also supports city-wide efforts to track and manage animal populations. Meanwhile, spaying and neutering can improve pets’ long-term health while addressing the root causes of overpopulation.
This weekend’s initiative reflects a growing recognition of the link between animal health and human well-being. As urban areas continue to expand, proactive measures like these can help prevent outbreaks and foster safer, healthier communities for both people and pets.
