Google is refining the driving experience for Android users by reinstating a key connectivity feature, while Meta is streamlining its messaging ecosystem with a significant shift in how users access Messenger on the web.
Android Auto Restores Essential Driving Mode Toggle
Google has reversed a previous decision regarding the Android Auto Driving Mode, bringing back a highly requested option to activate the mode via Bluetooth. The feature had been previously removed because it triggered “Do Not Disturb” settings on the devices of passengers, causing them to miss critical notifications.

This restoration aims to make navigation more seamless for drivers. To access the feature, users must update to version 26.05.32 of Google Play services. Once the update is installed, the option can be reactivated within the phone’s driving settings.
The move highlights Google’s ongoing efforts to balance driver focus with the connectivity needs of passengers in the vehicle.
Meta to Shut Down Messenger.com
In a move to consolidate its platforms, Meta has announced the upcoming closure of Messenger.com. Starting April 15, 2026, the dedicated website will no longer be available for messaging.
Following the shutdown, users attempting to access the site will be automatically redirected to the messaging interface integrated within Facebook.com. This change effectively makes a Facebook account mandatory for anyone wishing to manage messages from a computer, removing the ability to use Messenger as a standalone web service.
As of April 16, 2026, only the mobile application will remain available as a separate entity. While Meta has not provided an official justification for the closure, the transition suggests a strategy to simplify the user experience by centering communication within the primary Facebook interface.
Pixel’s “Now Playing” Feature Moving to Standalone App
One of the most celebrated features of the Google Pixel lineup, Now Playing
—which automatically identifies ambient music—is transitioning into a standalone application. According to code discovered by 9to5Google, this shift will allow the tool to be available on all Android smartphones, regardless of the manufacturer.
By converting the feature into an app, Google can deploy updates more rapidly without requiring full system updates. There are also indications that this rollout may bring back useful tools, such as the favorites tab.
Samsung Galaxy S26 Pre-Order Incentives
As the official launch of the Galaxy S26 series approaches, Samsung is testing aggressive pre-order incentives. In India, the company has been spotted offering a storage upgrade, allowing customers to reserve the 512 GB model for the price of the 256 GB version.
This promotional strategy suggests Samsung is looking to drive early adoption and increase the average hardware specification of the new fleet.
