Tenterden Could Gain New Wellness and Fitness Studio
Plans have been submitted to Ashford Borough Council to transform a storage facility in Tenterden, Kent, into a wellness and fitness studio.
The Little Barn Studio is seeking permission to convert an industrial unit on the Tenterden Station Estate, located on Station Road. The company describes itself as “a local business committed to promoting health, movement, and community connection,” and states the facility “will provide a positive addition” to the town. The proposed studio will offer a range of activities, including yoga, dance, and functional fitness, catering to various ability levels, as well as wellness workshops and community first aid training.
Located less than 400 meters from Tenterden’s High Street, the studio aims to be an inclusive space for both men and women, offering classes for all ages and fitness levels, including those with reduced mobility. The development could address a growing need for accessible fitness options in the area, particularly for older adults and those recovering from injury. Little Barn Studio anticipates creating six to ten new jobs and emphasizes its local ownership, with senior staff residing within walking distance. Operating hours are proposed from 6:45 am to 8:30 pm Monday through Friday, with reduced hours on weekends. The application highlights the sustainable nature of repurposing an underused industrial unit, aligning with national and local planning objectives and supporting the local economy. The Tenterden Station Estate is within the High Weald National Landscape. A decision on the application is expected by November 24.
