Utah Mammoth Secure First Win of Season with Overtime Thriller Against Predators

NASHVILLE – The Utah Mammoth earned their first victory of the 2025-26 NHL season today, defeating the Nashville Predators 3-2 in overtime thanks to a game-winning goal by Dylan Guenther.

Guenther, 22, scored at the 2:56 mark of extra time, marking the fifth overtime goal of his NHL career and the 10th game-winner in a Utah jersey. “Those are the ones you want to play in, when the game’s close,” Guenther said. “Game is on the line, every shift matters, and that’s when we want to be at our best.” Logan Cooley opened the scoring for Utah early in the first period, while Jack McBain tied the game in the third, forcing the overtime period.

The game was a physical contest at Bridgestone Arena, with both teams accumulating penalties. Nashville briefly took the lead in the second period with a goal from Erik Haula, but McBain’s equalizer kept the Mammoth in contention. This win is particularly significant for Utah as they look to build momentum in a competitive Western Conference. Teammate Jack McBain praised Guenther’s performance, stating, “He’s a good player… he’s doing a lot of really good stuff; (he’s) fun to watch, so this is good for him.” You can find more information about the National Hockey League on their official website.

A concern for Utah emerged late in overtime when defenseman Sean Durzi took a hard hit and left the game holding his shoulder; Head coach Andre Tourigny offered no immediate update on his condition. The Mammoth will continue their road trip Monday in Chicago before returning home to host the Calgary Flames on Wednesday at the Delta Center.
