CBS News Denies Reports of Gayle King’s Departure from ‘CBS Mornings’

CBS News has refuted reports that Gayle King is expected to leave “CBS Mornings” next year, affirming her contract remains valid through May 2026.

A CBS News spokesperson stated, “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026. She’s a truly valued part of CBS and we look forward to engaging with her about her future.” King has been a co-anchor of the morning show since 2012, navigating numerous co-host and format changes alongside current co-anchors Tony Dokoupil and Nate Burleson.

King recently signed a new deal to remain with CBS News last year, previously announcing a contract extension in 2022 on her SiriusXM show, where she acknowledged the challenging hours but expressed pride in her role. She briefly co-hosted a weekly CNN show, “King Charles,” with Charles Barkley between 2023 and 2024. These developments occur amidst significant restructuring at CBS News following Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount, including the recent hiring of Bari Weiss as editor in chief and ongoing changes to programs like CBS Evening News.

The network underwent a round of layoffs impacting nearly 100 staffers this week, signaling a period of considerable transition. CBS News officials say they anticipate further discussions with King regarding her long-term future with the network.
