Arctic Blast to Bring Freezing Temperatures, Possible Snow Flurries to Alabama Next Week

Alabama residents should prepare for a significant drop in temperatures next week, with the potential for snow flurries in some areas, including Madison County.

Early forecasts indicate lows in the 20s beginning Monday and Tuesday, with precipitation expected. While accumulation is not anticipated, the Alabama Emergency Management Agency warns of freezing conditions starting Sunday evening and the possibility of a few snow flurries. This cold snap arrives earlier in the season than usual, potentially impacting agricultural interests across the state.

WAAY morning Meteorologist Grace Anello stated, “We will see the coldest mornings we have seen so far this season next week, with temperatures in the low 20s at some points.” Anello advised residents to take preventative measures, emphasizing the “four Ps”: protecting plants, pipes, people, and pets. Specifically, she recommended limiting outdoor exposure, preparing for potential power outages, and checking on vulnerable individuals. For pet owners, keeping animals indoors and bundled up is crucial. Homeowners should insulate pipes, open sink cabinets to allow warm air circulation, and disconnect hoses and sprinklers. Information on winterizing your home can be found at the American Red Cross website.

Officials urge residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the cold weather approaches. Further updates and detailed forecasts are available from the National Weather Service.

Authorities will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as the forecast evolves.
