Fully 3D-printed footwear is back in production. Adidas has just introduced two modern iterations of the Climacool Laced model, expanding on a line initiated with a global launch in May 2025.

The return of the Climacool model is intentional. The design, based on a 3D mesh structure, was engineered for maximum airflow and flexibility, making early 2026 a natural time for its release. This latest iteration builds on Adidas’s exploration of additive manufacturing in footwear, a trend gaining momentum as 3D printing technology matures.

The new model is approximately 15 percent lighter than previous Laced versions, with traditional laces being the only component not created through 3D printing.

The new Climacool Laced version features subtle but noticeable aesthetic updates. Previous releases largely favored muted shades of gray and white. This time, adidas is taking a bolder approach.

The first offering combines a cream-colored upper with metallic silver stripes and a tongue in an off-white shade. The second design centers around a cool gray base, black laces, and contrasting white details.

How do the 3D-Printed adidas Climacool Sneakers Work?

The Climacool model is created using the Digital Light Synthesis process – a technology developed in collaboration with Carbon. This is an additive method where light cures a liquid resin layer by layer, creating a seamless structure without traditional component joining.

The result is a one-piece, lattice structure that functions as both the shoe’s upper and sole. After printing, the model undergoes a heat treatment stage to stabilize the material and adjust proportions to the specific size.

Unlike earlier projects, such as the Futurecraft 4D with its 3D-printed midsole, the entirety of this shoe is produced using 3D technology. This represents a significant shift in the approach to sneaker construction.
