Adidas has given its iconic Superstar sneaker a fresh look inspired by Indonesia. Continuing the success of the Island Series, which celebrates Indonesian culture, Adidas has released a Papua-themed version of the Superstar.
The sneakers are part of the Spring-Summer 2026 Island Series collection, which launched in mid-February. To mark the release, Adidas Indonesia hosted a launch event featuring a performance by the group Moluccan Soul.

The Superstar, a standout in the collection, is available in a single colorway featuring a cream base and brown accents representing the land of Papua. Adidas’s signature stripes are adorned with patterns inspired by the culture of the Asmat tribe.
Adding to the unique design, an emblem shaped like a bird of paradise – an icon of Papua – is featured in gold on the heel. The shoes are entirely made in Indonesia. As a finishing touch, a miniature shield with carved motifs and the Adidas Originals logo hangs from the laces.

These Indonesian-made sneakers retail for Rp 2.2 million (approximately $14 USD). Buyers will also receive two sets of shoelaces – white and brown – and a Papua-themed box.
The Island Series Spring-Summer 2026 collection also includes two apparel items: t-shirts featuring visual designs by artist Michael Yan Davis, a Papua-born artist.

“We really wanted to collaborate with someone who truly represents Papua,” said Gracia Putri, Brand Communication Manager at Adidas Indonesia, to Wolipop. “As it happens, Michael’s designs are very relevant to the Adidas DNA – very vibrant, and will certainly be well-received by the Indonesian public.”
The Papua Island Series complements Adidas’s collection with a touch of local wisdom. Previously, the brand released footwear themed around Sumatra, Java, Bali, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.
