Ajax secured a comfortable 4-1 victory over Fortuna Sittard on Saturday evening, despite an early injury to novel signing Oleksandr Zinchenko. The win marks Ajax’s first in three weeks and provides a boost as they continue their Eredivisie campaign.

The match took a concerning turn for Ajax just five minutes in when Zinchenko, making his debut for the club, was forced to leave the field injured. Owen Wijndal replaced the Ukrainian international.

Despite the setback, Ajax quickly found their rhythm. Jorthy Mokio opened the scoring for the Amsterdam club, capitalizing on a setup from Kasper Dolberg to make it 1-0. Rayane Bounida then doubled the lead, skillfully dribbling past defenders and finding the back of the net.

Mika Godts continued Ajax’s strong start, adding a third goal to the tally. Godts received a pass from Mokio and expertly placed his shot into the right corner, giving Ajax a commanding 3-0 lead before the half-hour mark.

However, Fortuna Sittard managed to pull one back, though Ajax maintained control for much of the match. Josip Sutalo unfortunately scored an own goal for Fortuna.

Ajax extended their advantage in the second half, with Godts scoring his second goal of the night to complete the 4-1 scoreline. Bounida had a chance to add a fourth earlier, but was denied by Fortuna goalkeeper Luuk Koopmans.

The victory provides a positive result for Ajax, though the injury to Zinchenko casts a shadow over the performance. The team will be hoping for a swift recovery for their new signing as they look to build momentum in the league.
