Amsterdam – Jordi Cruijff has officially been granted signing authority as the Technical Director of Ajax, following approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders on Monday, March 9, 2026. The move comes as Ajax looks to regain its footing in the Eredivisie and build towards future success.
During the meeting, held at the Johan Cruijff Arena, Cruijff addressed shareholders, stating, “This is my lowest salary in 10 years.” This transparency, according to reports, was well-received by those in attendance.
The meeting likewise saw the official appointment of five recent members to the Supervisory Board: Lesley Bamberger, Edo Ophof, Anita Coronel, Marry de Gaay Fortman, and Duncan Stutterheim. All received overwhelming support from the shareholders, with votes ranging from 99.99% to 100%.
Cruijff’s appointment as a statutory director means he now has the authority to finalize contracts and make key decisions for the club. The changes come after a recent managerial shift, with Oscar García replacing Fred Grim, a move Cruijff spearheaded, demonstrating his increasing control within the organization.
Shareholders expressed a desire for stability and a clear path forward for Ajax, currently sitting in fifth place in the Eredivisie standings. One shareholder noted the club is in a period where “no one is more afraid of Ajax,” highlighting the increased competition they face.
Cruijff has made it clear he isn’t interested in a long-term rebuild, stating he aims to create a winning squad immediately. He emphasized a desire to compete for the league title next year, signaling an ambitious approach to his new role.
The atmosphere at the meeting was described as lively, with shareholders eager to voice their opinions, and concerns. One Ajax insider jokingly referred to the gathering as a “zoo” and “folklore,” reflecting the passionate engagement of the club’s stakeholders.
Acting Supervisory Board Chairman Dirk Anbeek acknowledged the team’s current position and the recent coaching change, but stressed the focus remains on the future. The club is hoping these changes will usher in a new era of success and restore Ajax to its former glory.
