An Egyptian student from Al-Azhar University has won a $1 million prize at the 28th Dubai International Holy Quran Award. The competition, held in Dubai, saw students from 105 countries participate, with only six finalists – three boys and three girls – advancing to the final stage.
Jana Ehab Ramadan, a 15-year-old secondary school student, took first place in the female category. Umar Ali, a star of the “State of Recitation” program, secured second place in the male category, receiving a prize of $100,000. This achievement underscores Egypt’s longstanding tradition of excellence in Quranic studies.
Al-Azhar University publicly supported the two students as they competed in the final round, noting that they were the only representatives from Egypt to reach that stage, among over 5,000 contestants. The university highlighted that this success reaffirms the leadership of Al-Azhar’s students in the fields of Quran and Islamic sciences.
Jana began memorizing the Quran at age five and completed the memorization process with proficient recitation by the age of twelve. She believes that the value lies not in the quantity memorized, but in its retention within the heart.
