Valencia CF secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Osasuna on Sunday at Mestalla, a result that Osasuna manager Alessio Lisci attributed to his opponent’s clinical finishing.
Lisci addressed the media following the match, acknowledging Valencia’s intensity and tactical approach. “Valencia is a team that has a lot of intensity, it’s normal that they put pressure on, especially at home,” he said. “They played the match we expected, though they made some changes in the build-up. They have a very clear model of play, they played a good, very even match that was decided by a detail that they took advantage of well. The bottom line is, they won and whoever scores the goal deserves to win, there’s no more to it.”
The Osasuna coach further emphasized the decisive nature of scoring in football. “The one who scores, always has reason,” Lisci stated. “I think it was a match with very, very few chances. There may have been a little more approach from Valencia, but clear chances were not seen. Perhaps it was a 0-0 match. They were good at taking advantage of the mistake we made on the goal kick and they won. Football is about scoring goals. Valencia scored, we didn’t. So we have to congratulate them.”
The win for Valencia provides a boost as they continue their La Liga campaign, even as Osasuna will look to rebound from the defeat. Lisci also commented on a potential penalty shout during the match, noting that both calls – one from each side – were open to interpretation by the referee. “I think both hands, Guido’s and Jorge’s, are gray areas. That’s up to the referee. The same decision went for both teams, neither we nor Valencia can complain about those two decisions,” he concluded.
