Alianza Lima’s disappointing exit from the Copa Libertadores has been compounded by the news that CONMEBOL has opened two disciplinary proceedings against the club. The investigation stems from their first-round tie against 2 de Mayo.
Alianza Lima Faces Potential Fine in Copa Libertadores 2026
The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) announced the opening of the two cases involving Alianza Lima following their participation in the first phase of the 2026 Copa Libertadores.
Conmebol has opened a disciplinary case against Alianza Lima for alleged violations of articles 6.3.3, and 7.3.4.1 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Club Manual.
Alianza Lima will be investigated by the Disciplinary Unit to determine if they violated articles 6.3.3 and 7.3.4.1 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Club Manual.
The first case, relating to article 6.3.3, concerns “Ambush Marketing,” defined as any unauthorized attempt by an entity, brand, or individual to improperly associate their products, services, or commercial image with a tournament organized by CONMEBOL. This can occur on social media, in other media outlets, or physically near the match venue or in promotional areas like fan zones and hospitality spaces.

Article 6.3.3 explained by the 2026 CONMEBOL Libertadores Club Manual.
Should a violation be confirmed, Alianza Lima could face a financial penalty of at least US$100,000 and no more than US$200,000.
The second case (article 7.3.4.1) relates to post-match interviews. According to the 2026 CONMEBOL Libertadores Club Manual, these interviews are to be conducted on the field by the Host Broadcaster (HB) and Rights Holders (RH) immediately after the match concludes, once players and personnel are ready.

Article 7.3.4.1 explained in the 2026 CONMEBOL Libertadores Club Manual.
However, the specific nature of Alianza’s alleged infraction regarding this article has not yet been specified, though the potential sanction would be financial, similar to the first case. An official announcement is expected soon.
