Alianza Lima will face 2 de Mayo this Wednesday, February 11th, in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores Phase 1. However, just days before this crucial match, the Paraguayan side encountered an unexpected setback.

A travel hiccup has befallen 2 de Mayo ahead of their crucial Copa Libertadores clash with Alianza Lima. The Paraguayan club’s team bus suffered a mechanical failure en route to Asunción, where they were scheduled to catch a flight to Peru for the second leg of the first-round tie.

The team found themselves stranded on the road, but players appeared to maintain a positive attitude. Ezequiel Alfonso shared a photo with teammates on social media, captioning it “Things happen in football.”

Goalkeeper Ángel Martínez confirmed the breakdown to a local radio station, stating that a replacement bus had been requested. “We were on our way to Asunción when the bus broke down, apparently due to a mechanical problem. They just told me another bus is on its way,” Martínez said.

2 de Mayo holds a narrow 1-0 advantage from the first leg, and will look to defend that lead when they travel to Alejandro Villanueva Stadium on Wednesday, February 11th. The winner of this tie will advance to face Sporting Cristal in the next phase of the competition. This match is a key early test for both clubs as they vie for a spot in the group stage of South America’s premier club tournament.
