Social Media Buzz Follows Poland’s Eurovision Pick

Szemplińska competed against seven other finalists: Anastazja Maciąg (“Wild Child”), Basia Giewont (“Zimna woda”), Jeremi Sikorski (“Cienie przeszłości”), Karolina Szczurowska (“Nie bój się”), Ola Antoniak (“Don’t You Endeavor”), Piotr Pręgowski (“Parawany tango”), and Stasiek Kukulski (“This Too Shall Pass”). The winner was determined by viewer votes.

The announcement immediately sparked a flurry of reactions online. Fans took to social media to share their thoughts on the selection.

“Congratulations,” one user wrote. “Best song and best voice.” Others shared similar sentiments, posting, “Super!” and “Bravo! Congratulations and good luck!”

However, not all reactions were positive. Some viewers expressed reservations, with one writing, “Congratulations, it was deserved for Alicja, but unfortunately there won’t be a final with this song.” Another commented, “I wish Ali all the best, given that she is a talented and gifted girl. But don’t be surprised if it’s NQ [Not Qualified].” Several users questioned the fairness of the selection process, with comments like, “This setup was for Szemplińska from the beginning” and “I’m devastated, we probably won’t even build it to the final.”

According to Onet Kultura, the Polish preselections concluded on March 7, with the results revealed the following morning. The competition, despite initial plans, lasted just 45 minutes before voting opened and closed at 11:59 PM.

Szemplińska previously won the Polish national selection in 2020, but was unable to compete at Eurovision that year due to the event’s cancellation amid the COVID-19 pandemic. She likewise participated in the 2023 selections. The singer will perform “Pray” at the contest. The Eurovision Song Contest is a major cultural event, drawing millions of viewers worldwide.
