Alūksne Novads saw eight new births and two marriages through February 24th, while 32 residents passed away during the same period.
On January 31st, a meeting was held with customer service specialists from various parishes within Alūksne Novads, led by Māra Kovaļenko, who assumed leadership of the unified State and Municipal Customer Service Center for Alūksne Novads on January 1st. Discussions centered on organizing customer service operations, service statistics and identifying areas for improvement in daily workflows.
A contract has been signed for the development of design documentation and author supervision for increasing the energy efficiency of the Social Welfare Administration building on Uzvaras Street 1.
The “Increasing Accessibility of Community-Based Social Services in Alūksne Novads” project currently offers residents access to physiotherapy, psychological counseling, sand therapy, therapeutic massage, ergotherapy, and canine therapy.
The process of terminating the contract with SIA “NORTH BUILD” for the repair of Pilssalas Bridge has begun. Documentation is being prepared for a new procurement process to begin.
A construction contract has been finalized with SIA “Rubate” to implement the “Infrastructure Development Necessary for Entrepreneurship in Alūksne Novads” project, based on building designs developed by SIA “NAMS” for “Demolition of Environmentally Degrading Building Parts,” “Demolition of Environmentally Degrading Structures and Construction of All Engineering Communication Inputs and Access to the Business Area,” and “Facade Restoration at 2A Parka Street in Alūksne.”
A contract has been signed with SIA “Gateway Baltic” to conduct a needs assessment for business premises and plan the development of business spaces in Alūksne Novads.
Construction work will begin as part of the Climate Change Program to restore the water drainage system near Lake Alūksne in Alūksne City.

A memorial plaque dedicated to the heroes of the 1919 Marienburg Battle was unveiled at the Alūksne railway station, with guests from Finland representing the Independence War Heritage Society in attendance. In 2019, the Tampere region’s Independence War Heritage Society published the book “Marienburga, February 21, 1919” in Finnish. The book is the result of nearly 20 years of research by historian Tuomo Juntunen and tells readers about the exploits of the “Northern Boys” in the Alūksne area, the battles at Marienburg and Beja. This year, the Alūksne Novads municipality has published this book in Latvian. A book launch event took place at Ernsta Glika Alūksne State Gymnasium.
44 residents participated in the “Development of Digital Skills in Society” project in February.
Five subject Olympiads were held in February, with 94 students participating. Five students from the region have been nominated for the state level in economics, mathematics, Latvian language, and literature.
Renovation work has begun in the dormitory rooms of Ernsta Glika Alūksne State Gymnasium to adapt the space for the work of a psychologist and special education teacher.
The Education Administration has begun drafting regulations to establish uniform criteria for approving pedagogical and teacher assistant positions in preschool educational institutions.
To ensure the full and effective use of buildings owned by Ernsta Glika Alūksne State Gymnasium and to provide a high-quality learning process, as well as improve work organization for employees, an assessment of educational site locations is underway.
The Token Evening recently took place, where 12th-grade students received tokens as a symbol of belonging to Ernsta Glika Alūksne State Gymnasium.
Alūksne Art School offers an art program for adults, which residents are utilizing.
The Parish Association Administration plans to continue improving sections of local roads taken over from the state in 2026. Repair work is planned for 9 km sections on the roads “Kauļi-Papardes Station,” “Jaunanna-Anna,” and “Ķūderi-Jaunanna” for an indicative total of 87,000 EUR. In 2025, repair work was carried out on 6 km sections for a total amount of approximately 105,000 EUR on the roads “Kaktiņi-Sauleskalns” in Ziemera and Veclaicenes parishes, “Mežslokas-Čonkas-Dūre” in Ilzenes parish, “Pededze-Kalnapededze” in Pededzes parish, and “Ķūderi-Jaunanna” in Jaunannas parish.
February saw the conclusion of the ski series in Mežinieki (100 participants total), a regional basketball league game, Jestrais Ķauķis (approximately 200 visitors), the Latvian Championship in winter motocross and skijoring on Lake Alūksne (115 participants), Ice Hockey in Strautiņi, a Valentine’s Day women’s basketball tournament at the sports center (6 teams), Long Fish Day (99 participants), dog sports competitions “Alūksne Winter” in collaboration with the “REMIS” society (25 pairs of participants), and a North-East Regional League 1st league indoor football game will be held at the Alūksne Sports Center on February 28th, with participants from Alūksne, Balvi, Ludza, Jēkabpils, Rēzekne, and Preiļi.
In February, Arita Ārgale began her role as Head of the Central Administration’s Chancellery and Personnel Department, and Konstantins Rakovs was appointed as the temporary board member of SIA “Alūksnes Nami” as of March 1st. Applications for the cartographer position (fixed term) are being evaluated. Open vacancies in institutions include a cultural specialist and a tourism information specialist.
