AMD is preparing to respond to Intel’s latest processor releases with two new Ryzen CPUs, the Ryzen 7 9750X and Ryzen 5 9650X, according to recent leaks.
New information suggests AMD is gearing up to launch two Zen 5-based Ryzen processors – the Ryzen 5 9650X and Ryzen 7 9750X – as it counters Intel’s moves in the CPU market. The arrival of these processors comes as competition intensifies in the desktop CPU space, with both companies vying for performance leadership.
A key difference between these upcoming chips and their predecessors, the 9600X and 9700X, is a significant increase in Thermal Design Power (TDP), jumping from 65W to 120W. This higher TDP is expected to enable increased clock speeds and potentially allow for higher overclocking potential.
The Ryzen 7 9750X will feature eight cores and 16 threads, paired with 32 MB of L3 cache, and clock speeds ranging from 4.2 GHz to 5.6 GHz. The Ryzen 5 9650X will offer six cores and 12 threads, also with 32 MB L3 cache, and clock speeds between 4.3 GHz, and 5.5 GHz.

These processors offer a 100 MHz increase in clock speeds compared to their previous generations, representing a typical refresh of AMD’s product lineup. Whether the performance gains will justify an upgrade remains to be seen. AMD is reportedly deviating from its usual “XT” naming convention for refreshes, opting instead for incremented model numbers, similar to the recent 9850X3D. This shift in naming strategy could indicate a desire to more clearly differentiate between standard and refreshed processors. The new chips are a direct response to Intel’s recently announced Arrow Lake Refresh series.
