Angelina Jolie’s new film, “Couture,” premiered in French cinemas this week, and her son Maddox Jolie-Pitt is now credited in the film without his father’s last name.
Maddox Jolie, 24, worked as an assistant director on the film, which stars Jolie in the lead role. The change in name appearing in the credits follows a trend among Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children, as reported by People. The name change was also noted during the film’s premiere at the Toronto Film Festival last September.
Maddox is the fourth of Jolie and Pitt’s six children to publicly distance themselves from their father’s surname. This move comes amid the ongoing aftermath of the former couple’s highly publicized divorce.
Following a Family Trend
Jolie and Pitt share six children total: Maddox, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne. In 2024, Shiloh filed to drop her father’s last name, as reported by TV2. Vivienne and Zahara have also been identified publicly without the “Pitt” surname in recent years.

The shift in surnames comes after years of legal battles and public scrutiny following allegations of domestic violence. According to reports, Pitt was accused of physical violence during a 2016 incident on a private plane involving Jolie and their children. Pitt denied the allegations and was not charged with any crimes.
The couple’s divorce was finalized in late 2024, bringing an end to an eight-year legal process. The ongoing family dynamics continue to draw attention as the children navigate their lives following their parents’ separation.
